Types of Companies in Qatar

Limited Liability Company (LLC)

The most common form, with liability limited to the shareholder’s capital contribution; requires at least one Qatari partner for mainland companies.

Joint Stock Company (JSC)

Suitable for large businesses, with capital divided into tradable shares; can be public or private.

Partnership Company

Formed by two or more partners who share profits, losses, and liabilities.

Foreign Company Branch

Allows a foreign company to operate in Qatar without forming a separate legal entity.

Sole Proprietorship

Owned by one individual, often used for small businesses and professional services.

Holding Company

Established to own and manage other companies, usually for investment purposes.

Qatar Tax Structure

Corporate Income Tax

Levied at 10% on profits of foreign-owned businesses; Qatari-owned companies are generally exempt.

Withholding Tax

Applied on payments to non-residents for royalties, interest, dividends, or technical services, usually at 5–10%.

Value Added Tax (VAT)

Not yet implemented widely, but expected as part of GCC VAT agreements.

Customs Duty

Typically 5% on imported goods, with exemptions for certain items and free zones.

Excise Tax

Applied to harmful or luxury goods, such as tobacco, sugary drinks, and energy drinks.

No Personal Income Tax

Qatar has no personal income tax, making it highly attractive for foreign workers and investors.

Qatar Visa Types

Work Residence Permit (Work RP)

The standard and most common visa for employing foreign nationals in Qatar. The employer acts as the sponsor and arranges the entry visa, medical exams, and biometrics. Results in a Qatar ID (QID).

Business Visa

For short-term business activities or pre-arranged contractual work. Must be sponsored by an approved Qatari entity and is valid for a maximum of 3 months.

Family Residence Visa

Allows expatriate residents in Qatar to sponsor their immediate family members (spouse and children) to legally reside in Qatar.

Investor and Real Estate Visa

Residency options granted through investment or real estate ownership. Grants residency but does not automatically permit employment.
